Baressa is a Marmilla village famous for its olive trees: from the 13th century it was a renowned olive-growing centre, and at the edge of the village there is still a grove of almost a thousand ancient trees. Its origins are Punic-Roman, and in the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea.
The area is rich in nuraghi; around Codinas a Punic settlement grew that has yielded Attic pottery from the 5th century BC. In the village is the 16th-century parish church of San Giorgio, where the patron is celebrated on 23 April.
