By plane
Sardinia has three main airports, with flights from Italy and across Europe all year and many extra routes in summer:
- Cagliari Elmas
The largest, for the south: trains to the city in minutes. - Olbia Costa Smeralda
For Gallura, the Costa Smeralda, San Teodoro and La Maddalena. - Alghero Fertilia
For Alghero, Stintino, Sassari and the north-west.
Our airport websites have live flights, transfers to town, parking and baggage rules (currently in Italian).
By ferry
Ferries link Sardinia with mainland Italy, Corsica, France and Spain. Main routes:
- Olbia and Golfo Aranci: from Genoa, Livorno, Piombino and Civitavecchia.
- Porto Torres: from Genoa, Civitavecchia, Barcelona, Toulon and Marseille.
- Cagliari: from Civitavecchia, Naples and Palermo.
- Santa Teresa di Gallura: from Bonifacio in Corsica, about one hour.
Compare timetables and prices: they vary a lot between low and high season, and August sells out early. All routes with crossing times are on our ferries page.
FAQ
Plane or ferry?
Flying is faster, with direct flights from many European cities. The ferry makes sense if you bring your own car, especially for families or long stays.
Which airport should I choose?
Cagliari for the south, Olbia for Gallura and the Costa Smeralda, Alghero for the north-west. Distances inside the island are long: fly into the airport closest to where you'll stay.
