Assolo is a small Alta Marmilla village, probably founded in Byzantine times from a Roman settlement and later part of the Giudicato of Arborea. Its small territory is remarkably rich, with nearly twenty nuraghi among the hills.
The old centre is a fine example of farming architecture: large stone houses with a loggia, the lolla, around the courtyard and arched gateways onto the street, with the 18th-century parish church of San Sebastiano at its heart. At Christmas people still make su trigu cottu, cooked wheat sweetened with grape must.
