Abbasanta

Abbasanta is a municipality in the Province of Oristano with about 2,828 inhabitants, 315 metres above sea level.

Abbasanta stands at over 300 metres on the basalt plateau that bears its name, among pastures, cork woods and springs, and has almost merged with neighbouring Ghilarza. To the east the land slopes down to the Tirso valley and Lake Omodeo.

Its origins are probably Roman, linked to a staging post on the road from Cagliari to Porto Torres, and in the Middle Ages it led the Guilcier district of the Giudicato of Arborea. The old centre keeps 16th and 17th-century stone houses with loggias and Gothic-style windows, but the main reason to stop is Nuraghe Losa, one of the best-preserved nuragic complexes in Sardinia.
