Boroneddu is one of Sardinia's smallest municipalities, with fewer than two hundred people on under five square kilometres between Ghilarza and Lake Omodeo; part of Ghilarza from 1927, it became independent again in 1958. In the village is the simple 17th-century parish church of San Lorenzo, and near the lake stands the 16th-century country church of San Salvatore, last trace of the vanished village of Orene and scene of the main feast in September. Two groups of rock-cut tombs are carved into the trachyte walls of San Michele.
