Paulilatino is a village on the Abbasanta plateau, heir to the Roman settlement of Paulis Lactea, in one of Sardinia's areas richest in nuraghi, with more than a hundred. Its treasure is the nuragic sanctuary of Santa Cristina, with one of the island's finest and most perfect sacred wells, built of basalt with steps descending to a domed chamber, beside a village of huts and a nuraghe. The same site holds a Christian village with the little church of Santa Cristina and pilgrims' lodgings. In the village are the Gothic-Aragonese church of San Teodoro and the 18th-century Palazzo Atzori, home to the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum. On 20 January great bonfires burn for San Sebastiano.
