Villanovaforru is a small Marmilla village at three hundred metres among hills and wheat fields, inhabited since the late Neolithic. Since the 1960s the discovery and excavation of the Genna Maria nuragic complex, with a three-lobed nuraghe and a village on the nearby hill, have made the village a reference point for Marmilla archaeology. The Archaeological Museum, in the former granary of 1892, displays finds from Genna Maria and the area and has exhibition spaces. The village gathers around the early 17th-century parish church of San Francesco d'Assisi. Santa Marina is celebrated at her chapel on 16 July, and Barumini and Sardara are minutes away.
