Villagrande Strisaili

Villagrande Strisaili is a municipality in the Province of Ogliastra with about 3,376 inhabitants, 700 metres above sea level.

Villagrande Strisaili is an Ogliastra village at seven hundred metres on the eastern slopes of the Gennargentu, with the hamlet of Villanova Strisaili beside the upper Flumendosa lake. The Ogliastra is one of the world's blue zones for longevity, and Villagrande is among the villages with the most centenarians. Its territory, one of Sardinia's largest, was one of the areas where nuragic civilisation resisted outside influences longest: it holds dolmens, menhirs, rock-cut tombs, dozens of nuraghi and the nuragic sanctuary of S'Arcu 'e is Forros, where metal was worked. About four kilometres from the village is the Santa Barbara park, an oak wood where the saint's feast is held on the second Sunday of July. The village has the 18th-century parish church of San Gabriele Arcangelo and is known for carasau bread, culurgiones and cheeses.
