Girasole

Girasole is a municipality in the Province of Ogliastra with about 1,191 inhabitants, 8 metres above sea level.

Girasole is a small Ogliastra village on the plain between Tortolì and Lotzorai, a few metres above sea level, founded in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Cagliari. The area has been inhabited since nuragic times and also has Punic and Roman remains, with the Santu Tomau, Scomajorcu and Tomboli nuraghi. Of the old centre the main survivor is the Gothic-Aragonese parish church of Nostra Signora di Monserrato. Girasole is a quiet base for the beaches of Tortolì and Arbatax and for trips to the Gulf of Orosei.
