Ussassai

Ussassai is a municipality in the Province of Ogliastra with about 599 inhabitants, 670 metres above sea level.

Ussassai is one of the smallest villages in the Ogliastra, at almost seven hundred metres in the Barbagia di Seulo, in an almost alpine setting of mountains, woods and limestone tacchi. Medieval in origin, in the Giudicato of Cagliari, its territory is rich in rock-cut tombs, nuraghi, giants' tombs and nuragic villages. The village keeps multi-storey stone houses around the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, built in 1649 by local craftsmen. San Salvatore is celebrated at the country church on 12 September, and in October an apple festival showcases the local fruit. In summer the Trenino Verde line passes through.
