Jerzu

Jerzu is a municipality in the Province of Ogliastra with about 3,228 inhabitants, 427 metres above sea level.

Jerzu is the town of Cannonau: its vineyards on the slopes among Ogliastra's limestone peaks produce one of Sardinia's most famous reds, and the village, at over four hundred metres, is known as the city of wine. In August a two-day wine festival fills the streets. The landscape is spectacular, with limestone towers around the town, and rich in archaeology: nuraghi, the nuragic complexes of S'Ornu and Bonu and the Perda Puntuta rock-cut tombs. In the village are the old parish church and the present one of Sant'Erasmo, of 17th-century origin.
