Tertenia is a southern Ogliastra village in the Rio Quirra valley a few kilometres from the sea, perhaps heir to the Punic-Roman settlement of Saralapis. The village was hit by a disastrous flood in 1940, after which the parish church of the Vergine Assunta was rebuilt. Its territory is very rich in nuraghi, with dozens of sites, and dominated by Monte Ferru. On the coast lies the Marina di Tertenia, with the beaches of Sarrala, Foxi Manna and Cala Francese and the Spanish tower of San Giovanni di Sarrala, along a still little-built coastline.
