Bari Sardo is an Ogliastra village a few kilometres from the sea, with a long sand-and-pebble beach watched over by the Torre di Barì, a 17th-century Spanish tower. Originally called Barì, it added 'Sardo' to avoid confusion with the city in Apulia. Of medieval origin, it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari.
The area is rich in archaeology: the Canali giants' tombs, the Su Pranu rock-cut tombs and more than ten nuraghi. On the square stands the parish church of Nostra Signora di Monserrato, built in the 17th and 18th centuries. In September the village celebrates the Madonna di Monserrato and San Girolamo.
