Cardedu is a young village in southern Ogliastra: it grew after the great flood of 1951, when many families from Gairo moved here near the sea, and became a municipality only in the 1980s. Its land runs from the hills down to a coast of long, uncrowded beaches. The countryside holds eight nuraghi, a few rock-cut tombs and a well-preserved sacred well at Cuguddadas. The main feast is the Madonna del Buoncammino on the third Sunday of September, and the patron, San Paolo, is celebrated in late June.
