Perdasdefogu

Perdasdefogu is a municipality in the Province of Ogliastra with about 2,042 inhabitants, 599 metres above sea level.

Perdasdefogu is a Salto di Quirra village at almost six hundred metres, between Ogliastra and the Sarcidano. Tradition says it was founded by refugees from a coastal village destroyed by Arabs; since the 1950s its territory has hosted a large military missile-testing range. Perdasdefogu is known worldwide for its residents' longevity: one local family entered the records as the siblings with the highest combined age. The area has nuraghi and a sacred spring at Peddi de Cani, and the village has the remains of an old pre-Romanesque three-aisled church of San Sebastiano. In mid-September the feast of San Salvatore and San Giovanni Battista, dating from the 17th century, lasts four days.
