Sorgono is the chief town of the Mandrolisai, at almost seven hundred metres among holm-oak woods and vineyards, Roman in origin and in the Middle Ages the main centre of its district. Its vineyards produce Mandrolisai, one of the most typical red wines of the interior. In its territory is the sanctuary of San Mauro, with a 16th-century Gothic-Aragonese church surrounded by pilgrims' lodgings, where on the last Sunday of May one of central Sardinia's most popular feasts takes place. Not far off is the Biru 'e Concas complex, with dozens of menhirs in rows, and the area holds rock-cut tombs and many nuraghi. The old centre has stone houses and a few 19th-century mansions around the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta.
