Meana Sardo is a village in the Barbagia di Belvì at almost six hundred metres, of Roman origin, which was for a time the district capital in the Middle Ages. Its old centre has medieval-looking streets of typical multi-storey Barbagia houses, graced by windows framed in trachyte and sandstone in a Gothic-Catalan style. The area's best-known monument is Nuraghe Nolza, a complex with a central tower and an outer wall, dominating the valleys. In January the Sant'Antonio Abate feast, with the gathering of wood for the bonfire, opens Carnival.
