Atzara

Atzara is a municipality in the Province of Nuoro with about 1,210 inhabitants, 540 metres above sea level.

Atzara is the village of painters and of Mandrolisai wine. In the early 20th century artists such as the Spaniard Antonio Ortiz Echagüe stayed here at length, drawn by the costumes and the light, and the village's modern and contemporary art museum now bears his name.

The old centre is formed by two medieval quarters, Su Fruscu and Sa Montiga 'e Josso, either side of the main street. Among the Mandrolisai vineyards stands the almost intact Abbagadda nuraghe near a warm spring. May brings the wine festival and August the feast of Santa Maria 'e Josso with horseback pariglias.
