Belvì

Belvì is a municipality in the Province of Nuoro with about 665 inhabitants, 660 metres above sea level.

Belvì is a mountain village in the Barbagia that bears its name, at over six hundred metres among chestnut and cherry trees. In the Middle Ages it was the district capital, and its shepherds enjoyed special autonomy within the Giudicato of Arborea.

A house in the village holds the Natural History Museum, born from the Petruso collection and enriched by later gifts, a surprise for such a small place. The area has many rock-cut tombs. Belvì is a stop on the Trenino Verde, and in mid-June it holds its cherry festival.
