Siliqua

Siliqua is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 3,997 inhabitants, 66 metres above sea level.

Siliqua is a village in the Cixerri valley, Roman in origin, which flourished again after the 11th century in the shadow of Acquafredda castle, built by the judges of Cagliari on an isolated volcanic hill and later owned by Count Ugolino della Gherardesca. The castle ruins, with walls climbing up to the keep on the summit, are among the most spectacular sights in southern Sardinia and can be visited. The old centre keeps mud-brick houses around the square of the parish church of San Giorgio. The area has nuraghi and the remains of Punic military camps. San Giorgio is celebrated on 23 April, and Santa Margherita near the castle ruins at the end of September.
