Decimomannu

Decimomannu is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 7,831 inhabitants, 10 metres above sea level.

Decimomannu is a Campidano town about twenty kilometres from Cagliari, named after the Roman staging post at the tenth mile of the road to Sulci. Today it is best known for its large military air base, which shaped the town's growth. The old centre keeps Campidano houses of mud brick, the làdiri, with big courtyards and gateways for carts, and there are traces of the Roman aqueduct to Cagliari and a bridge over the river. The most heartfelt feast is Santa Greca, held three times a year; the September one is among the busiest in southern Sardinia.
