Semestene

Semestene is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 171 inhabitants, 405 metres above sea level.

Semestene is one of the smallest villages in the Logudoro, on the plateau between the Meilogu and the Marghine, medieval in origin in the Giudicato of Torres, in an area rich in rock-cut tombs and nuraghi. Its most famous monument is the small, harmonious 12th-century Romanesque church of San Nicola di Trullas, which belonged to the Camaldolese monks and is decorated inside with medieval frescoes. In the village the parish church of San Giorgio, rebuilt between 1623 and 1633 over a Romanesque church, faces a little square with steps. The feast of San Nicola di Trullas is held on 16 June and the second Sunday of August.
