Mara is a small Logudoro village between Pozzomaggiore and Padria, probably founded by the Doria in the 12th century. Its territory holds the Sa Ucca de Su Tintirriolu cave, which gave its name to the Neolithic Bonu Ighinu culture, one of Sardinia's oldest. Outside the village stands the sanctuary of Bonuighinu, with an imposing rococo façade of 1797 on a large square, scene of a several-day feast on the third Sunday of September. The village has the 16th-century Gothic parish church of San Giovanni Battista, and the area has many nuraghi.
