Cossoine is a Logudoro village on a plateau above the fertile Campu Giavesu plain, famous for centuries for its wheat. Roman in origin and inhabited in Byzantine times, it belonged to the Giudicato of Torres in the Middle Ages. Three kilometres out in open country stands the Byzantine church of Santa Maria Iscalas, with an elegant cross plan, while in the village the late-Gothic parish church of Santa Chiara has an octagonal bell tower from 1729. The land is dotted with nuraghi and rock-cut tombs.
