Santu Lussurgiu

Santu Lussurgiu is a municipality in the Province of Oristano with about 2,440 inhabitants, 503 metres above sea level.

Santu Lussurgiu is a Montiferru village at five hundred metres, built like an amphitheatre inside the ancient crater of a volcano, among holm oak and chestnut woods and springs. Its old centre, with stone houses and the panoramic Piazza Mercato, keeps the Gothic-Catalan church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Museum of Peasant Technology, with thousands of objects from rural life. The village is famous for leather and ironwork, for casizolu cheese and for the polyphonic singing of Su Concordu. A few kilometres away lies the hamlet of San Leonardo de Siete Fuentes, with a Romanesque church and seven springs among the woods. At Carnival Sa Carrela 'e nanti sends riders in pairs galloping down the village's steepest street.
