Villanova Truschedu is one of Sardinia's smallest municipalities, in the Barigadu near Fordongianus on the bank of the Tirso. Medieval in origin, in the Giudicato of Arborea, it was a hamlet of Fordongianus from 1928 until after the war. The area holds many nuraghi. The village keeps mud-brick houses with large gateways onto the courtyard and its 17th-century parish church. San Gemiliano is celebrated at his church on 16 September, with the costume procession, sa rassigna, on the evening before. The Roman baths of Fordongianus are a few kilometres away.
