Olzai

Olzai is a municipality in the Province of Nuoro with about 903 inhabitants, 474 metres above sea level.

Olzai is a Barbagia di Ollolai village in a green valley, with an old centre of narrow lanes and multi-storey granite houses. The painter Carmelo Floris, who portrayed Barbagia in his work, was born here, and his house is now a museum. The area has the Ozieri-culture allée couverte of S'Ena 'e Sa Vacca and several nuraghi, including Nuraghe Puddu. The village has the old parish church of San Giovanni Battista, and the Sant'Antonio bonfire burns on 17 January; the patron, Santa Barbara, is celebrated on 26 August.
