Lodine is one of Barbagia's smallest municipalities, at almost nine hundred metres overlooking the Lake Gusana valley; long part of Gavoi, it became independent in 1988. It has a unique feature: the village centre sits on top of a huge nuraghe, with the square and the 17th-century church of San Giorgio, built with the tower's stones, on its summit. The area has the Tolesi menhir, rock-cut tombs and several nuraghi. The two patron saints are celebrated on 17 August and 24 October.
