Orani is a village at the foot of Monte Gonare, between the Nuoro area and Barbagia, formed from several medieval villages and probably heir to Roman Oddini. It is the home of two great 20th-century artists, the painter Mario Delitala and the sculptor Costantino Nivola, to whom the Museo Nivola is dedicated, one of Sardinia's finest art museums, with sculptures in a park. At the entrance to the village stand the façade and bell tower of the church of Sant'Andrea, the original core of the settlement. The area is rich in remains from prehistory to Roman times, and Orani's Carnival, with masks and big dances, draws crowds.
