Neoneli is a Barigadu village at over five hundred metres among holm and cork oak woods, founded in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Arborea under the protection of Orisetto castle, whose ruins stand on a nearby hill. At the heart of its oldest quarter is the 14th-century church of San Pietro. The area is rich in prehistoric monuments: the Santa Maria d'Olisai dolmen, the Istudule, Pranu S'Asa and Pulèu rock-cut tombs and several nuraghi. In January bonfires burn for Sant'Antonio and San Sebastiano, and Carnival has revived the mascheras de cuaddu, horse masks.
