Monteleone Rocca Doria

Monteleone Rocca Doria is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 117 inhabitants, 368 metres above sea level.

Monteleone Rocca Doria is a hamlet of a few dozen people perched on a rocky hill above Lake Temo, between Alghero and Bosa. The Doria founded it in the 13th century beside the castle built to control the routes to Alghero, the family's last stronghold in Sardinia, which fell after a long Aragonese siege in 1436. The village still looks like a fortress next to the castle ruins, and the parish church of Santo Stefano is medieval in origin. The views sweep over the lake and hills to the sea, and on 17 January the great Sant'Antonio bonfire is lit.
