Laconi

Laconi is a municipality in the Province of Oristano with about 2,008 inhabitants, 550 metres above sea level.

Laconi is the village of Saint Ignatius, the Capuchin friar born here in 1701 and deeply venerated in Sardinia: his birthplace can be visited in the centre, and his feast in late August draws pilgrims from all over the island. At 550 metres in the Sarcidano, the village lies below a rock wall and has an old centre of stone houses and 19th-century mansions. The Aymerich park, a large 19th-century botanical garden with waterfalls, caves and ancient trees, surrounds the ruins of the medieval castle, and the Menhir Statue Museum displays a unique collection of prehistoric anthropomorphic stelae found locally.
