Genoni is a village between the Marmilla and the Sarcidano at the foot of the Giara, probably founded as a Punic post guarding the passes inland and grown in Roman times. The area was frequented even before the nuraghi, as the Spiluncas Mannas menhirs show, and later received dozens of nuragic towers. On the hill of Santu Antine above the village are the remains of a nuraghe and a Punic fortress, with wide views over the Marmilla. In the village stands the late-Gothic parish church of Santa Barbara, and between May and September Genoni takes part in branding the Giara's wild horses.
