Goni

Goni is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 504 inhabitants, 383 metres above sea level.

Goni is a small village between the Gerrei and the Sarcidano, probably founded in late Roman times as an outpost on the border with the interior. Its territory holds one of the most evocative sites of Sardinian prehistory, the Pranu Mutteddu necropolis, with dozens of menhirs lined up among the oaks and circular and mound tombs. The village grew in two parts divided by a stream, around the 18th-century parish church of San Giacomo. In January two great bonfires are lit, on the 17th for Sant'Antonio Abate and on the evening of the 20th for San Sebastiano.
