Baunei

Baunei is a municipality in the Province of Ogliastra with about 3,716 inhabitants, 480 metres above sea level.

Baunei is the village of the Gulf of Orosei's most famous coves: its territory, one of the largest in Ogliastra, includes Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine, Cala Biriola and the seaside village of Santa Maria Navarrese. The village itself stands at almost five hundred metres, at the foot of the Golgo plateau.

On the Golgo you'll find the Su Sterru sinkhole, almost three hundred metres deep, the little church of San Pietro and the natural pools of Su Piscinas. Along the coast runs the Selvaggio Blu, Italy's toughest trek. The area has dozens of nuraghi and giants' tombs, and in the village the 17th-century church of San Nicola holds a painting by Andrea Lusso.
