Gergei

Gergei is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 1,298 inhabitants, 374 metres above sea level.

Gergei is a Trexenta village on the edge of the Sarcidano, populous and prosperous in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Cagliari. The area was densely settled in nuragic times: next to the Su Iriu nuraghe lies a village of huts, and just over a kilometre from the village is the Preganti giants' tomb. In the centre stands the parish church of San Vito, with a large polyptych attributed to Antioco Mainas. The patron's feast on the third Sunday of June is held in the churchyard, and in May the Santa Greca feast brings a traditional livestock fair.
