Barumini

Barumini is a municipality in the Province of Medio Campidano with about 1,310 inhabitants, 202 metres above sea level.

Barumini is home to Su Nuraxi, Sardinia's most famous nuragic complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The nuraghe has a central tower with three stacked chambers, built around the 17th century BC and later surrounded by four towers and a large village of huts. It was excavated in the 1950s by Giovanni Lilliu, who was born here.

The village is worth a stroll: typical Marmilla houses with large courtyards and gateways, the parish church of the Immacolata and Casa Zapata, the Spanish lords' residence built over another nuraghe and now a museum. A few kilometres away are the Giara di Gesturi with its wild horses and the Sardegna in Miniatura park.
