Escolca is a small village between the Trexenta and the Sarcidano, Roman in origin, at over four hundred metres. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari in the Siurgus district. The village has the late-Gothic parish church of Santa Cecilia from the late 16th century and the church of Sant'Antonio Abate from 1613. In the countryside lie the remains of the medieval village of San Simone, abandoned after a plague, a Roman settlement near Santa Maria delle Grazie and Nuraghe Mannu.
