Furtei is a Medio Campidano village between Sanluri and the Marmilla, founded in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Cagliari. On the small hill of Santu Brai a nuraghe was reused by the Carthaginians in the 6th century BC, and the area has several other nuraghi. The village has the Romanesque church of San Narciso in its upper part and the 15th-century parish church of Santa Barbara, rebuilt in the 17th century. In the 1990s Furtei had Sardinia's only gold mine, now closed.
