Borutta is a small Meilogu village among hills dominated by Monte Pelao. On a nearby height stands one of the masterpieces of Sardinian Romanesque, the basilica of San Pietro di Sorres, in two-tone light and dark stone, once the cathedral of the Sorres diocese and now home to Benedictine monks. In the rock walls above the village open the Bau Grutta caves, used as early as the Mesolithic. San Pietro is celebrated on 29 June.
