Banari

Banari is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 610 inhabitants, 419 metres above sea level.

Banari is a small Meilogu village on a panoramic slope, founded in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Torres. Its importance was tied to the nearby Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria di Cea, founded in the 12th century.

The village has two parts: the lower one, which grew around the vanished church of San Giacomo, and the upper one around the Romanesque church of San Michele, given to the Camaldolese monks of Saccargia abbey. The area has several nuraghi and the rock-cut tombs of Sa Tanca 'e su Rettore. The patron, San Lorenzo, is celebrated on 10 August.
