Bessude

Bessude is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 428 inhabitants, 447 metres above sea level.

Bessude is a small Meilogu village on a hill between Ittiri and Thiesi, founded in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Torres and later held by the Doria. The old centre has narrow streets around the parish church of San Martino Vescovo, built in 1620 in a still Gothic style, which keeps a painting of the saint.

The surrounding land is dotted with nuraghi and a few rock-cut tombs, with Roman graves at San Teodoro. The patron, San Martino, is celebrated on 11 November and the Assumption on the Sunday after 15 August.
