Viddalba

Viddalba is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Sassari with about 1,694 inhabitants, 30 metres above sea level.

Viddalba is an Anglona village in the lower Coghinas valley, an independent municipality since 1975, among hills and fertile fields a few kilometres from the sea at Valledoria. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Torres, on the border with Gallura. On the site of a nuragic settlement a Roman necropolis developed, which has yielded many funerary stelae, displayed in the village's Archaeological Museum. On a nearby hill stands the country church of San Gavino a Monte, medieval in origin, and on the outskirts the church of San Leonardo, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees. The main feasts fall in May, starting with San Gavino on 1 May, and keep alive the memory of pastoral traditions.
