Santa Maria Coghinas is a small village in the lower Coghinas valley, on the border between Anglona and Gallura, an independent municipality since 1983. It lies at the foot of the hill topped by the 13th-century Doria castle, whose eighteen-metre pentagonal keep dominates the valley. Along the river rise the hot springs of the Casteldoria baths, known since antiquity. On the second Sunday of May the patron Santa Maria is celebrated with a greasy-pole climbing contest, and the sea at Valledoria is a few kilometres away.
