Suelli

Suelli is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 1,135 inhabitants, 254 metres above sea level.

Suelli is a Trexenta village that was the seat of a diocese in the Middle Ages, given at the end of the 11th century by the judge of Cagliari to the bishop San Giorgio, much venerated throughout southern Sardinia. The area is dotted with nuraghi, including the Piscu nuraghe in a strategic position on the road to Mandas. The religious complex in the centre includes the church of San Pietro, the former cathedral rebuilt in the 13th century in Pisan Romanesque style, and the sanctuary of San Giorgio, which holds the saintly bishop's tomb and is a place of pilgrimage. Saints Cosma and Damiano are celebrated at the country chapel on the last Sunday of September.
