Guamaggiore

Guamaggiore is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari with about 1,050 inhabitants, 199 metres above sea level.

Guamaggiore is a small Trexenta village, founded in the Middle Ages in the Giudicato of Cagliari, in an area inhabited without interruption since prehistory, with more than a dozen nuraghi. Its oldest monument is the 13th-century Romanesque church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the old parish church, while the church of San Sebastiano in the centre was built as a vow after the plagues of 1651 and 1654. Two feasts honour the patron: on 20 January, preceded by the sagra de is carrus a montu, and in May.
