Santadi

Santadi is a municipality in the Province of Sulcis Iglesiente with about 3,570 inhabitants, 135 metres above sea level.

Santadi is an inland Sulcis village along the Rio Mannu, divided into the upper and lower quarters of Susu and Baxiu, whose origins tradition links to the arrival of the Mauri from Africa in the early Middle Ages. It is known for its wines, especially Carignano del Sulcis. Its territory holds the Is Zuddas caves, with rare eccentric aragonite formations, the Phoenician-Punic fortress of Pani Loriga and dozens of nuraghi. In the village the Sa Domu Antiga house museum recreates Sulcis peasant life, and in August the Mauritanian wedding, revived since 1969, parades the couple on an ox cart with traditional costumes.
