Nuxis is an inland Sulcis village with the mining hamlet of Acquacadda, founded in the Middle Ages as Nughes and grown thanks to a Benedictine settlement. A few kilometres away in the Tattinu valley stands the little church of Sant'Elia, Byzantine with a Greek-cross plan and among the oldest in southern Sardinia. The area is rich in sites from pre-nuragic to Phoenician-Punic times, including a Punic military post identified at Corona Arrubia, and the village has the parish church of San Pietro, built in 1853.
