Pau is a small Alta Marmilla village on the slopes of Monte Arci, the obsidian mountain. From the Neolithic onwards the black volcanic glass was gathered and worked here and exported across the western Mediterranean, a story told in the Obsidian Museum. The area holds prehistoric knapping sites, nuraghi such as Punta Nuraxi and Roman tombs at Sa Telluri. The village has the 14th-century late Romanesque church of San Giorgio, and on 1 September Santa Prisca is celebrated at the country church, the feast most tied to old traditions.
