Pabillonis

Pabillonis is a municipality in the Province of Medio Campidano with about 2,948 inhabitants, 40 metres above sea level.

Pabillonis is a Medio Campidano village between San Gavino and Guspini, heir to the Roman settlement of Pavilio on the Cagliari-Porto Torres road. It is known for its tradition of potters, who worked the clay of the Rio Mannu. In its territory stands the multi-towered Melas nuraghe on a rise. The village partly keeps its courtyard houses with fine stone gateways, the church of San Giovanni Battista and the 16th-century parish church of Santa Maria della Neve. The feast of San Giovanni Battista, on 24 June and 29 August, recalls the vow of the villagers whom, legend says, the saint hid from Barbary corsairs.
